Evenlode Catchment Partnership

Since 2014, the Evenlode Catchment Partnership (ECP) has been dedicated to improving water quality, enhancing biodiversity, and managing flood risks while increasing climate resilience across the Evenlode catchment area. Our mission is to create a thriving, sustainable water environment that benefits both wildlife and local communities. Wild Oxfordshire is proud to host this incredible partnership.

Why is this important?

Within living memory, the Evenlode waters used to be teaming with life and crystal clear throughout the entire catchment. Now, water-crowfoot is rare to find and the waters are brown, murky and instead of flowers, sewage fungus is thriving…

The ECP’s work has gained recognition for its impact, with coverage in outlets such as New Scientist, showcasing our efforts as a model for effective river restoration. Together, we are making a lasting difference to the health of the Evenlode’s rivers and the communities that depend on them. What are we working on?

Supported by our partners, our work includes innovative approaches to river restoration, such as the creation of wetlands, ponds, and fish passages, alongside natural flood management efforts like the installation of leaky woody dams and storage bunds. These interventions not only restore natural habitats but also reduce flood risks, benefiting local communities. To engage the communities further, the partnership also delivers community, education, recreation and access projects. You can find out more about all of the projects on the Evenlode Catchment Partnership website.
